The portrayal of emotional/mental abuse by Fiona are done very well, they are sensitive yet completely honest.

This was so powerfully written that Lucas’s narrative crawled under my skin and I don’t think this is a story that I will forget in a hurry.

I'm not always the biggest fan of insecure women, but she is so likable and tries to be brave, so it made her endearing. Lili has a tough journey after initially meeting Ben, paved with turmoil and trauma, watching her arc was so satisfying – pls read the triggers, as Lili’s experiences are not for the faint hearted. The author did a great job of the character Justin , as much as I wanted to punch him the way he was described was incredible. The Last Goodbye is her first novel written under the pen name of Fiona Lucas, but she’s been writing heartwarming love stories and feel-good women’s fiction as Fiona Harper for more than a decade.

It is a beautiful, and yet also heartbreaking, story of finding yourself when you’ve been through the very worst that life throws at you. Of course when the year is up and they are supposed to meet again, things don’t go the way they’re supposed to and there are broken hearts on both sides. It was a very passionate book with intense emotions following Lili/Alice’s amnesia but the romance aspect was still very slow burn. This book shows that even in the darkest of times you can always find happiness when you don’t expect it.

I think I was expecting something light and airy and don’t get me wrong, there were moments of this, but there were also really sad and heartbreaking moments.

An emotional and heart breaking read that will have you rooting for the characters from the first page.At the same time, the narrative switches to another time frame, present day, where Alice appears to have amnesia and finds herself in Scotland. Except, perhaps for portions of Part I, this book is not very happy and neither was I, when I read it.
