Description

It also contains the Scriptures for each day’s readings in full from the New Revised Standard Version Bible and music from the Celtic Daily Prayer CD (although please note that the music files will not play on all devices).

Much of the writings and daily devotionals bring deeper communion with God with challenging questions. We receive many requests for permission to reproduce parts of our liturgy or other items from Celtic Daily Prayer Books 1 and 2. A short set of liturgy with picturesque language ("Christ as a light, Christ as a shield" for example)followed by readings designated for each day of the year, both from Scripture and poems or thoughts from medieval religious figures (such as Aidan or Cuthbert or the like), then a time of intercessions that are open to your own materials or impromptu prayer, closing with blessings. This is a resource you will want to come back to, and so I am going to minimize my own words today, encouraging you instead to dive deep into the Northumbria Community and experience all the Spirit has for you through them. The Community also uses a quarterly Prayer Guide (contact Ellen or Charlotte in the Community Office).

The Office can be said anywhere, but, for Morning and Evening Prayer, it is recommended that a quiet place, as free from interruptions as possible, is chosen. Many have found that the use of the CD whilst travelling to or from work by car can be very helpful. Such waste – making all the mistakes once and again, each generation making the same mistakes, fumbling in ignorance and darkness. A friend of mine suggested that I get this book to help with my daily quiet time, because I was struggling to find something to hang my routine on without becoming stale. The bonus for me [other than the beauty of its prayers] is that timewise it's a lot more user friendly for someone with a busy schedule [that'll be most of us then ;o)].I usually do the morning prayer myself wherever I am at home or working at a hotel away or waiting in my car. Thoughts, prayers and readings for every day of the year, both morning and evening, with Celtic themes and inspiration, from the Northumbria Community. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. We load an article each month entitled Daily Readings during…… which provides information on the selected readings for the current month.

We are greatly encouraged that so many people find help and inspiration from our published resources and we want to enable as many people as possible to make use of them. A revised edition of this classic compendium of readings and prayers for every day of the year, with Celtic themes and inspiration. Saint’s Day February 1st: Brigid (450-523)Eight years before the death of Patrick (see March 17th), a girl was born to a pagan Irish chieftain and a Christian slave woman from the land of the Picts. There is also clear guidance on how and when to use the material in imaginative ways, and on the benefits of utilising the imagery and themes of Celtic Christianity. It also provides a two-year cycle of insights and daily reflections with accompanying scripture readings for use in morning and evening prayer.

Daily Office (and indeed all the liturgies in this prayerbook) are best begun and ended with a period of reflective silence; and by affirming that the prayers are said in ‘the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Links forwards and backwards between the readings and Morning / Evening Prayer all work correctly, and I've found no need to use bookmarks to save pages. The relevant meditation for the day of the month follows, and repetition of them month by month turns them into familiar friends – they are worth learning by heart.
